Sleeping Beauty and Couches

So for the past couple of days, my daughter has been sleeping SO MUCH. It's kind of nice because it has let me get stuff done during the day, but for the most part, it's pretty boring. I guess I am not really happy either way. If she is up all day, I run out of things to keep her happy. If she sleeps all day, I'm bored. I think all of this sleep must mean that she is growing! I weighed her today and she weighed 8.8 pounds! What a little chunker! We moved her up to size one diapers and all of her little newborn onesies are getting too small for her. Today I had to take off the pants she was wearing because it was cutting off the circulation on her tummy! I just got out all of the 0-3 month clothes to try some on and see how they were fitting. They are all pretty big. Lots of the onesies would fit her if she were 4 inches longer but she's not....so tomorrow morning, my grandma and I are going to put some elastic in the sides so that they will fit her! I'm excited to put her in some new clothes :)

Our other exciting news is we are getting new couches! I found some on a facebook page for 150 bucks and I was like SCORE! The only problem is they are way bigger than the ones we have. We are going to rearrange our furniture in the living room so that we can fit them, and it's not going to look perfect but the new couches we are getting are so comfortable! We went and tried them out last night and I'm pretty much in love :). Now we just need to sell our white couches so that we can sorta trade couches instead of spend a bunch of money on new ones. I'm super excited though and we should have them in by the weekend! And if you know anybody that needs couches, we have some!

Other than that, nothing really new... :)

My family and My projects

So the past week I have been working with Grandma on making Brynlee's dress for Whitley's wedding. We found a FREE pattern, used curtain fabric my grandma already had so...FREE, she already had the elastic...FREE, and she already had red ribbon...FREE! I spent zero dollars making this dress and I did it ALL BY MYSELF. I actually did do it all by myself this time!! I cut, pinned, sewed, hemmed, threaded, etc. all by myself. I was so proud of myself. We found another cute fabric while we were searching for this one so I decided I wanted to make another one!
I am so happy with the way it turned out!! Today I set out on making the other dress. It is this super cute navy blue fabric with white flowers on it. We had just enough fabric to make a dress her size. I also did this one all by myself and it took me less than an hour. (ALSO FREE!) If I ever need her to have something to match something specific, I can cut one of these out no problem and throw it together so quick! I think this one is even cuter than the other one! Right now it has a headband wrapped around it but we are going to make something that looks really close to it because I am in love with how it looks! It also looks really cute on her. She needs some bloomers so you don't see her diaper all the time, but other than that, it's adorable! I'm sad the picture I have of her in it is her crying, but you get the idea :).

Brynlee wasn't feeling very good for the past couple of days. Yesterday was just awful. She barely ate, she slept a TON and when she was awake she was screaming. She woke up at 3:30 am to eat, which she does very rarely, and just was not a happy camper. This morning, she woke up a new baby! She is totally back to normal. She was awake for over an hour, just happy, sitting in her bouncer. She was laughing and smiling non stop, and she had a good afternoon nap! I almost cried when she was smiling at me this morning because I was just so happy to have my happy baby back and feeling better. I guess that's a mom thing...
That face...AH!! I love it too much...
She has also been filling up her diapers as much as they will hold... (and more). I am down to 4 more newborn diapers and I think we are going to move her up to size one. She fits perfectly in the newborn ones now...but they just can't take the heat!
This was from her blowout at party city. I just can't get enough of her little naked body though! Especially when it has a headband and shoes on :). One of my favorite pictures of her by far!

Saturday is Whit's shower and I still have a bunch of stuff to do to get ready. We might have too much stuff to do/going on but at least it won't be boring! I am so glad I have had so many people be willing to help me throw this shower...it's my first one! It's going to be sooooo cute too. We have all of the picnic decorations and ideas you could possibly imagine!!! It's going to be a blast, I hope Whitley enjoys herself :).

All is good around the Hon home. Spencer is still doing school and has been super stressed out this week because he had two tests, but that will be over tomorrow night! He also dropped his dumb math class so that has lessened his stress load quite a bit and he seems happier.

Brynlee keeps growing and has been putting on some serious chub in her cheeks...I LOVE IT! Nothing like some extra fluff to kiss on. :)

The last picture I will leave you with makes me laugh! Brynlee sleeps on her tummy most of the time now, but she does this thing where she...well....I'll just let you see for yourself!
I am constantly trying to turn her head to the side but it always ends up like this! I check and make sure she is breathing about every minute or so. Who sleeps like this!?!?!?! CRAZY PEOPLE  My beautiful daughter :).

Baby Brain: Not the pregnancy kind!

Why do we turn into lunatics when we are around babies?! Sometimes I find myself acting so ridiculous or making the weirdest faces at her. And at this point she is barely starting to react, but I have been doing this since the day she was born. I wonder, sometimes, what goes on in that little, ever developing brain of hers? So...this is some of the things I think she thinks:

"GET OUT OF MY FACE!!!" -I'm sorry baby girl! It's too fun to smooch on ya! I seriously can't keep my lips away from her face. And neither can anybody else. Tatum and Katy are two of the worst! They just love her to death...wonder why?? :)

I'm positive she feels just like this.

"Your breath stinks!"- This one is in accordance with the first one. I feel so bad for her. She gets to smell our delicious morning breath while we are smooching on her. Oh well, she can deal with it!

"Quit jostling me, I'm a human being you know!"-Spencer and I have a tendency to play with Brynlee like she is about 6 months older than she actually is. Sometimes I have to remind Spencer that she is still just a little baby. And I have to remind myself that she can't actually hold her head up yet, I just think she can. I'm sure she gets tired of being passed around while she is trying to sleep, and of having no control over where she is placed or how she is placed there.

"These blinds are crazy!"-We have the kind of blinds that hang vertically over the windows. Brynlee stares at them constantly. And it's funny  because they kind of make her go cross-eyed but she still just stares away! I wonder why she stares at those so much...

"I'm hungry! I'm tired!"-Right now we are in the stage where she eats, she plays for just a little while, and then takes LONG 3 hour naps. Then we repeat the cycle. For a while she was up a lot more during the day and eating more often, but she was much grumpier. When she is awake now, she is SO happy! :)

"I'm trying to smile mom, I just can't work the muscles right yet!"-She has really started smiling a ton. And it's getting really fun to try and figure out what things she likes and what make her happy.I'm constantly saying, "Show me pretty smile. Mommy wants to see your pretty smile. Can you smile for mommy??" She might get sick of that... It's funny to watch her sorta try to figure out what muscles it takes to smile. It takes her a while to get going but once she does, she keeps going for a good minute or two!

"Can you please get this diaper off of me??"-It's so hard with a newborn baby to know when to change their diaper. I change her every time I feed her and if I hear her pooping, but other than that I don't change her. Sometimes though, when I am changing her, I feel so bad! The poop is like stuck to her bum and it's so hard to get off! I have no idea how long it's been sitting there. Did she poop right after I put the new one on? Is this somewhat recent? Or her diaper will be so soggy like she has peed 4 times in it. I wish she could just tell me when she needs to be changed.

"Why do you keep shoving that plastic thing in my mouth?"-She really does a lot better with the binky now, but when she is throwing a fit, I'm POSITIVE this is what she is thinking. "THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT!" She eventually realizes that it is what she wants but DANG that girl does not cave easily...what I have to look forward to...

"Just let me sleep!"-At church and when we go to either of our houses, there are so many people that want to touch her. Touch her hands, touch her feet, touch her face...I'm sure it's exhausting! Especially when you are trying to sleep! I know I don't like it when Spencer is touching me while I'm trying to sleep! I know he thinks that it feels good to rub my arm first thing in the morning, but no...I want to sleep! I"m sure she does too.

"I'm hot" "I'm cold"-This is one of the ones I'm sure she says and I wish I had a digital thermometer that would show me how comfortable she is temperature wise. I try really hard to make sure she doesn't get too hot and I put blankets on her when we go cold places, but what about while she is sleeping? She can't really just move her leg out of a burrito roll when she gets hot. Or she can't just reach down and grab a blanket if she is cold. Poor girl...

"I don't like this dress, it's uncomfortable"-I don't know how often she feels this way because I dress her in the comfiest clothes that I can. I'm not into all of the fru fru frilly dresses and what not...I like to know that I'm putting her in things that she will be comfortable in. But sometimes her dress gets bunched up under her while she sleeps and I'm sure that's not comfortable. I'm sure it's more often, "I don't want to wear this dress, I want to wear that one"...you know...little girl stuff.

"Why do you guys think that hippo is so amusing?"-We have a little pink hippo that is just about the only toy we have her play with at this point, and she usually isn't very amused (whether it's her age or she just doesn't like it, I don't know). It's always the toy we put in her face. I'm sure she thinks we are nuts. Maybe I should get a couple different things so she doesn't end up hating that cute little pink hippo rattle.

"Please keep me wrapped up while you lotion me...it's cold in here!"-I do need to be better about that. I want her to like getting lotioned, but she is usually wet and cold and so she screams. Good idea Brynlee, I'll try that next time.

"Your hand is pinching my thigh! Your finger is poking my side!...etc"-I feel like sometimes Brynlee isn't happy while we are holding her because she's probably not comfortable. But how the heck would I know that?? I just try to hold her in ways that I think wouldn't hurt ME.

"Can you itch my nose?"-Really though! I'm sure babies get itchy, so how do they scratch it? Brynlee can't reach her toes! Having an itchy foot is the worst feeling, especially when you CAN'T scratch it...

"MY ARM IS ASLEEP!!"-I think about this sometimes too. Babies sleep in whatever position we put them in. What if sleeping on their side makes their arm go to sleep! Maybe that's why they cry when they wake up...because they can't feel their arm! It's a possibility right?

"I don't need to burp, mom."-Well sorry darlin'! We are burping you until you give me one  :)

SO. What I got out of this blog post? Babies should really talk. This whole trying to figure out what she is thinking all the time is really really hard!! On the other hand, once given the power of speech, they never stop talking. So maybe I will enjoy this quiet time of hers. I also like figuring out what noises mean what...it feels like I'm closer to her when I can tell which cry means I'm mad versus I'm hungry or tired. I just love her to pieces.

DIY Girl

That is what I have become! I have recently been introduced to the etsy website, and I have fallen in LOVE with a lot of the things on there. I have also NOT fallen in love with some of the prices. There are so many cute things that I would love to get for Brynlee or me, but it's just way out of the budget. But do I just look and be sad that I can't have them? NO! I decide, "Hey, this looks easy enough. Let's try it!" (with a ton of help from my amazing grandma of course!). I made my own car seat cover (saw someone selling it on facebook, didn't want to pay $30 bucks for it. After deciding it can't be that difficult, we went to Joanne's and found fabric that I liked and got all of the pieces. I think it ended up costing my like $15 to make and I sewed it all by myself! (Except for the bows. I would have done them, but Brynlee came a little sooner than expected and we didn't have time to finish so grandma sewed them on while I was in the hospital and brought it to us!). I'm REALLY proud of that one.

This is how far I got it before Brynlee was born.
The finished product!
My next project with my grandma was making Brynlee's blessing dress. While I didn't actually make any of it, I picked out the fabrics, the design, and sat and watched my grandma make it. She is seriously pro. I could never do what she does! She is teaching me her ways though so maybe one day I will be that cool.

I am in LOVE with this fabric. It's so feminine and pretty! We cut out one of the flowers and that is what is on the top :)

Next we decided she should probably have some shoes to go with this beautiful dress. The problem is, my daughter has the skinniest, longest feet of all time. I can't even fit her in socks. So we found a pattern online and decided to make her a pair of little slippers. Apparently this is really hard because the fabric we were working with was so small to be able to fit her that you almost didn't even have enough to hold while sewing. I watched my grandma do this part (again, leave the important stuff for the pros) and tried to learn as much as I could about the process. They turned out SO CUTE! Even though she couldn't even keep them on long enough to be blessed in them, but they will look so cute hanging up next to her dress!

Just so you can see how SERIOUSLY tiny these things are!

This beading matches the waist band on the top.
Once that was over, I decided that I wanted another project. I found some fabric that I really really love and decided I was going to make a nursing cover out of it! That project isn't quite done yet, we just have the straps left to sew on, but I have sewed this one entirely by myself!! Even the pocket! It was still a team effort though, grandma did all the folding and ironing. She set me up for success :).

This is the point where I found etsy. I found these little baby sandals that I just had to have but they were $18 a pair!! Even though I really wanted to, I just couldn't justify spending that much on something so tiny. Then my grandma and I had an idea...we should make our own! They look so easy! And guess what...they were! And so cute! Once we finished making them, we figured out the cost per pair based on how much we spent on supplies, and they each came out to less than $3 a piece!

And the matching headband :)

I am so happy with how these turned out!! I even have some leftover materials so I am going to make a matching bracelet for the light pink flip flop looking ones :)

As some of you may know, my sister is getting married in about 3 weeks! It's crazy! I am throwing her bridal shower (with a TON of help from my aunts Amy and Sherry and my grandma :) ). Her wedding is picnic themed so we are doing her shower sorta the same way. My first project for the shower was the invitations. I can't take much credit for them, my aunts designed them. What I can take credit for is cutting out every single little flag. There are 7 flags on each invitation and 45 invitations. For those who don't have a calculator sitting right next to them, that is 315 1/2" x 1/2" triangles. It was a TON of work but it went fairly quickly and they turned out adorable :).

My Next Few Projects:

I found these shower games on etsy. It's crazy though, they were being sold for $25 just for the pdf, not even for printing them. I was in shock. They can't be that hard right?? So I am going to use this one as a template and just make it myself.

This one was being sold for $20...still ridiculous.

We were going to make these bags instead of buy them because they were $45 for 50 bags plus shipping. We decided though that we are going to use a clear bag and then just make a tag like this to tie around it.

These water bottle wraps were $5 for 12 wraps. That is paying 2.50 for a piece of paper. I think not. So I am going to make these too :). They are perfect for Whit's picnic theme don't you think?
I want to make one of these to frame and put in Brynlee's room. I can use the colors of her crib and make it look so cute! This was being sold for $15 printed on a onesie. I bet I can make it for less than $5

If I don't do the picture frame, I would love to put it on a pillow case that matches her room. Somewhere, I WILL have this!!

I think these are so cute! The lady calls them pickled pajamas and she they are just a pair of rolled up baby jammies in a cute jar. This would be a perfect baby shower gift and it's just creative. They were being sold for $10.75 but I think I can make them for much cheaper.

I am in LOVE LOVE LOVE with this onesie. I think it would be adorable around Christmas time, but it is being sold for $30!! I bet I could find enough Christmas ribbon lying around, loop them up, and sew them on a onesie.
I think Brynlee needs one of these. She looks exactly like Spencer did when he was a baby, and even like he looks now! Most of the onesies were being sold between $15 and $25. That's so nuts...

This onesie was being sold for $25. HOLY. SMOKES. I am going to make Brynlee one that says Daddy's little KNIGHTS fan and on the back it will say HON 51 because that is Hayden's number! She needs some gear to wear to the games!

If I can convince her, I would love to have my grandma show me how to make this dress for Brynlee. I think it is so stinking adorable and looks fairly simple. This was being sold for $47.

This little picture outfit looks so easy to make. It is just a satin diaper cover with lace sewed across the bum. I could even use that lace to make a matching headband. So simple! SO. Tell me why they are selling it for $16.50??? It takes next to no fabric.
This headband is so cute! Once Brynlee's head gets a little bit bigger, I am going to make her one like this. Sold for $10.50.
Lastly is this adorable peasant dress!! I am thinking of finding yellow chevron fabric and keeping the red bow and using it for Whit's wedding!! :) It's gonna be so cute and I want to try and sew as much as I can by myself. Selling for $27.50.

Maybe I'm crazy...I know that people charge for their time and stuff, but to make those bead shoes it took me all of 15 minutes!! And I made them for $2 a pair! That makes their labor $3.20 per MINUTE. Plus they still make you pay shipping. I just don't understand. I would rather just make it myself and gain some marketable skills! Grandma says she is domesticating me, and if that's what's happening, I'm all for it!! I love seeing the things that I make turn out and I LOVE being able to say that I made something. I am officially a Do It Yourself girl!!!!
